Inspired by listening to Piccadilly Radio for hours on-end in the 80s in his hometown of Manchester, Karl aspired to be a radio presenter and soon embarked on a stint in Hospital Radio, with Radio HBS. Life had other plans until now…
Karl has enjoyed successful careers as a Registered Nurse in the NHS, working on sick children’s wards and in Accident and Emergency departments. After leaving the NHS, Karl served in the Princess Mary’s Royal Air Force Nursing Service as a Nursing Officer for several years, where his service took him to Cyprus, The Falkland Islands and Afghanistan. In 2008, Karl was awarded the Queen’s Commendation for Valuable Service for his actions leading the Medical Emergency Response Team, in Afghanistan, where he provided pre-hospital emergency care by helicopter. Not content with what most would see as two successful careers, Karl then embarked upon achieving one of his other childhood dreams and became an Airline Pilot. Karl finally retired from flying in 2024, as a Captain flying from various hubs throughout the UK and Europe.
Karl finally settled in Lincolnshire with his family and cat in 2008, so considers himself to be an adopted Yellowbelly, especially as he has links to the City with his great-grandfather having played in goal for Lincoln City and Lincoln Liberal Club (as well as Manchester United). Other interests include the gym, running, golf, fishing, Manchester United, beer with his friends and curling up on the sofa having what he calls a ‘nanna nap’!
